1938/2006/2009 45’ x 12.5’ x 5′ Ex US Army Model ST Bow Tug 16-GRT, 11-NET. This boat is made of welded steel with 1/4″ plate. It was built by American Steel Dredge at Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1938. The boat is powered by a 200-HP Detroit 6-71 diesel engine. It features a forward stairway from the inside pilothouse leading down to the lower level where bunks could be installed. The boat also has a keel cooled 12-Volt start and electronics system with new batteries and wiring. The hull of the boat has been inspected and found to be in perfect condition, as smooth as glass. The boat was completely rebuilt in 2006. The following renovations were done during the rebuilding process: a new Kahlenberg wheel with a 3-blade stainless steel and a spare steel wheel were installed, the boat was dry-docked and high-pressure water blasted, and the bottom was coated up to the rub-rail with coal-tar epoxy modern equivalent. New zincs, bearings, shaft, rudder, and fending bow to stern were also added. Hydraulic steering was installed and the boat was completely gutted, rewired, replumbed, and new paneling was added to the wheelhouse. Sound-proofing was done in the pilothouse and interior finished off with plywood. A new radar unit, GPS, and two radios were also installed. The boat has a new mast and all new interior, exterior, and navigation lights. The fuel tank vents were relocated to a more convenient location and the smoke stack piping was replaced and raised 2-feet to keep smoke away from the deck area. New smoke stack vents were also added. The boat was repainted inside and out, the fuel tanks were cleaned and lines purged, and old fuel filters were replaced with double Racor’s. Emergency fuel shut-offs were installed as required by USCG and the fuel fill pipe was cut off and relocated inside the boat. The bilge was scrubbed clean with no oil residue. The back bench was rebuilt and a buss heater was installed in the pilothouse. New cushions, gauge panel, throttle controls and rigging, steering wheel, and electric control option were added. A new Viking 4-man liferaft was also included. In 2009, the hull was replated, sand-blasted, and painted with 2-part epoxy. The boat is in beautiful “turn key” condition and can be as a dredge tender or tug for light towing. It has enough power to handle loaded mud scows when dredging. However, it should be noted that the boat is primarily a workboat with limited space for accommodations. Located near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. $79,900 USD.
